Operation ducks 07' Empty

PostOperation ducks 07'

I'm not normally one to fondly recall teams that have trounced my beloved wings. I'll make an exception for the 07 ducks. The Stanley cup that year was really the west finals. Detroit was favored as I recall and we made a series of it but ultimately the outcome was never in doubt. Their D that year was unreal, pronger and neids with giggy in the pipes.

As I look at the tire fire formally know as the cup champion canes I find myself really wanting that. I'm halfway there with weber now I just need a Scotty clone.

To that end gents I'm offering anyone but staal and weber to accomplish that. I want the best D in WTP history.

pfft, you can try to emulate the ducks as much as you want. Pronger single handedly took Edmonton to the finals. If you have a guy like Pronger, all he has to do is shut down your best forwards, kill a few guys, and score and he's one of the greatest all time. No one can replace him. Neids on the other hand, you can find several of these new kids that play like Neids.

Anyways, Guess who has the Prongs ;P. He put up 2 assist, in 5 games last season. Bwahaha

There's a difference between playing like Nieds, and being on Nieds level.

To say he's an average, "oh, theres plenty like him type of guy", is pretty out to lunch. He was easily as valueable as Pronger.

Well Neids was lucky to be fortunate enough to be on the NJD team(So was Broduer), with so many people to learn from. Including, guys like Robinson, Stevens, Daneyko, Lemaire, Fetisov, there's a list of guys, that help Neid turn into the player he is, and that kind of stuff is so valuable. That experience is irreplaceable.

There's several of guys, with tools that can make them better or as good as Neids, but sometimes, its a bit of luck, that you get drafted or get into the right organization, supporting cast, in order for that to happen.

There's no doubt Neids was a great defense man. Mr.Prongs is someone, that i really doubt you ever see a guy like him again.

The fact that Neids/Lidstrom were never physical guys, allowed them to play much longer than, the other guys. Neids was mostly a top 10 defender in his career, but i didn't see him as the best guy ever year. Props to him, as his career will always be celebrated.

While, guys out there, like Rob Blake, Brian Leetch, Al McInnis, Stevens, and Sergei Zubov, where they were better than Neids, for a bit of time, but weren't fortunate to have as glamorized careers. People will probably forget those guys, in a few more years, if they haven't already.

Again, Not saying Neid is bad. He's one of the all time greats. Just imagine, if Subbans/Karlsson/Green/Letang/Yandle of the worlds, had those type of mentors around to round out their games.

Great post, and I agree, but that's What-if's and scenario based stuff. We don't know how N. would have turned out without all those guys, and we don't know how those youngin's will turn out WITHOUT mentors.

I suppose the merit I draw from it is that every young guy you mentioned there is absolutely horrendous on Defence with Letang being the best-ish at D out of the group of them. Yet, Neid's was excellent with his IQ, and could shut guys down without hitting them at all. Just perfect with taking the puck away and poke checking. So, I could see how the guys that tutored him maybe rounded out his D-game to mold him into being able to adapt to not being physical where as guys like Green and Karlsson suck balls on D, and probably won't be getting any better soon.

Pronger, on the flip side, was pretty well physically ready. Didn't need to adapt that part of his game to be able to take the puck away from guys. To be able to use that physicality, size, and offensive game though like Pronger did. Hard to decide which one I chose.

I think they're pretty much equal in terms of D-man, just polar opposite in terms of playing style.

I dunno, Letang is terribad on defense as well. Most of these, can skate effortlessly, but that's about it.

Neid was bad early on as well, but rounded his game out in NJ, so yeah those guys did help. Someone, people should look at is, Brian Rafalski, who is another dman that developed with Jersey. Just, amazing positioning, despite being so small.

I wonder if this is all Larry Robinssons doing. Vlasic is looking hella good, but he's kind of always been like that.
