Back in the Old WTP day, i used to blog about what was going on in the league. I might pick that back up again now that i'm not running things.
For now here's my thoughts on Carolina.
When I first saw my team I was a little disheartened. The way the team was set up, is not how i play the game at all. I'm all about cheap on the D and goalies spend on the forwards. Turns out the CPU drafted the opposite way.
After a flurry of trades, i'm content to see how they do,.....for now at least. I'm the resident trade whore of this league and I'll probably make 100 more moves before we're all done with season one, but for now the identity of the canes is starting to take shape.
Knowing I can't keep up with teams loaded with offensive talent AND fantastic D AND goaltending for days (see panthers, florida) I had to ask my self how i could compete. Which reminded me about Marc008. Marc was an old gm who had a shite Predators team and always did have a shite preds team,......it's just he always competed. His team never missed the playoffs,....like ever.
It was hilarous too, he had like no one on his team,...maybe two stars and a couple a losers for depth, plus an ok goalie and a hodgepodge D. But the guys he did have on his team were dedicated to one thing; Hard, Fast, Physical defensive hockey.
That's the canes M.O. and it will be for the foreseeable future.
Line one
E. Malkin LW 92-P. Bergeron C 89-J. Skinner RW 86
To meet the NHL's elite, i play the only spade I have. A ragin malkinmanic. Combine that with an elite Defensive forward like Bergeron and a pure sniper like skinner and this is the line that's going to score my goals,.........like all of them,..........no seriously,......malkin's gonna have 100 points, you watch.
Line Two
B. Bennett LW 80-K. Turris C 84-B. Gallagher Rw 82
This line's primary purpose is to not get scored on. Turris is probably good for a few points but outside of that my second line won't scare anyone. That said, They arn't a cake walk either.
Line Three
V. Sobotka LW 81-P. Gaustad C 80-P. Bouchard RW 83
I'm really excited about this line. Bouchard may have forgotten how to play hockey in the real nhl, but not virtually. He's fast and skilled and will have to carry the line offensively, because the other two guys do one thing,....shutdown other teams top guys.
Line Four
R. Carter Lw 77-M. Santorelli C 78-J. Boll RW 75
This might come as a shock, but i expect to squeeze a little blood from the stone here and hope these guys can pot a few points. Boll is me playing with my heart and not my head (Mr. Boll was born in Charlotte NC, why the real canes havn't gotten him i have no idea)
My D
C. Phillips D 85-J. Cowen D 84
B. Stuart D 84-R. Scuderi D 82
J. Oleksiak D 79- K. Russell D 79
i'm senseing a trend here,....yup,.....big,...hulking,...slow yes,..but damn brutal defensive D men. Poor Russell has to man the PP all by himself
my goaltending sucks,....and it's by design. I'm not a spend on a goalie guy by my D is going to grind all game and my forwards are going to trap and pass the puck to malkin and skinner and I bet if all goes according to play,.....Carolina will be the new Nashville.
